Reaffirming the Mission of Christ
Although non-sectarian and welcoming to worshipers of all traditions, the DGSCA, since its inception in 2001, has intentionally
incorporated a reference to Christianity into its name. We have done this in affirmation of our belief that the teachings
of Jesus and the example of his life are joyous expressions of divine love, worthy of emulation. When others use the language
of faith to exclude members of the gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual communities, we want our name to stand as witness
to the true spirit of Christ's spoken words:
"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first
and greatest commandment. And the second is like unto it. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself."
Matthew 23:37-39
Creating Personal, Proactive Sanctuary
Sanctuary has traditionally carried the medieval connotation of a place of refuge, a walled fortress often besieged by
forces of injustice. The DGSCA, however, believes that sanctuary deserves a much more modern and far-reaching interpretation.
Being able to worship and build community in a safe environment is of utmost importance, to be sure. But many people
long for more. They want to reach out and feel spiritual connection with others. Our vision of sanctuary goes to those very
needs.
We have come to understand that whenever we gather in welcoming fellowship, our experience of God's embracing
love makes us whole. Thus empowered, we begin to touch the hearts and minds of others-not by proselytizing-but simply by living
as fully as we were created to be.
There is power in harmony; the power of the living Spirit. The DSGCA believes that
sanctuary is borne out of the spiritual harmony that is reflected both in the wholeness of the individual and in the nurturing
strength of a community gathered in celebration of God's wondrous diversity.
If you share in our vision of sanctuary;
if you are seeking opportunities to worship in a welcoming environment; if you long for a world transformed by the power of
love; we invite you to join us at our next service.
